I've never really drawn objects, so this project really improved my abilities in drawing inanimate things. I like trying different mediums as well, and this project allowed me to get more comfortable with doing so. These pieces were hard to draw, to say the least. However, I did figure out some things I liked and did not like about each medium. First off, pen was so fun to work with because of the different ways I could shade, and the smoothness of the lines. However, it was much harder to make my object look dimensional and realistic with pen than with the other two pieces. I think it was because I couldn't really erase the pen, and the pen only has one value, not different ones for different values. My pencil drawing required a ton of detail, which was kind of irritating because I kept having to switch pencils constantly to find the perfect value. Other than that, my pencil drawing was my favorite to do because I was already familiar with pencil drawings and the medium itself. The charcoal drawing was confusing because I had never used any charcoal before that project, and it took a while to get things to look the way I wanted since I didn't really understand how different charcoals worked, or how to shade with charcoal. The process was a lot faster than the other two pieces, though. Since charcoal can be wiped away really easily and blended back to the background color, no one could see my mistakes and I could try as many times as I wanted to, to perfect and fix things in my drawing. My favorite warm up would have to have been the different hatching cubes. Before learning hatching, I didn't know anything about creating an entire drawing using only pen. Also, I've never seen hatching used before until this warm up. I just really love how much dimension doing these simple methods can add to a drawing, and it was the most useful warm up for me thus far. Without that warm up, I highly doubt my pen drawing would've turned out as good as it did. compositionComposition is the placement or arrangement of a subject(s) in an art piece. It is how the different parts of an art piece are organized. valueValue is the lightness or darkness of a color. Value can vary in different art pieces, and light and dark values are typically mixed to add dimension and depth to something.
