THE PORTRAITI drew a self portrait using Prismacolor pencils and graphite for the sweatshirt collar. The use of color was extremely vital in the process of coloring this piece. I mixed a variety of colors for the lips and skin to get the exact hues I wanted, and would resemble my reference photo the most. Proportion also played a large factor, because I had to make sure my facial features looked like the picture, and were in the right places on my face. The proportions of the face guidelines helped with that a lot. Every attempted self portrait I've made has never turned out well, so I wanted to challenge myself and make a realistic one. My piece shows this by actually looking similar to the picture and having realistic features. I found the hair really successful, even though I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. It turned out looking more textured and real than I would've ever thought. I learned how to draw realistically, and use different methods to achieve that realism. This project was really fun to work on, and I'm very proud of the results.
